Soldier Boy
I know your smile's genuine
As you look me in the eye
 Laughing under the streetlight
The rain finally leaves the sky

 The raindrops hit the pavement
At a slow and steady beat
Falling on all but four deaf ears
As people pass us on the street

So let's skip right to the chorus
And pretend that there's no pain
We'll act like you aren't leaving
As we dance in the pouring rain

I'll hold tight to this moment
Out of fear of missing you
Only you know how strong I am
After all that we've been through

So go and join the Few, the Proud
I promise to wait right here
 Watching for those letters
That can drive away this fear

I'll keep you in my prayers
No matter how far you roam
You'll always be my soldier, boy
I know you'll make it home
