On to Afghanistan
I sit in the suburbs,
 In my house,
 Uncertain and afraid,
 Watching the news.
 “A few people just died,”
 Says the pretty newscaster.

Isn’t that why they went to war?
 I asked myself.
 No, I replied.
 They went so that
All of us here at home
 May see a better tomorrow.

 Then the old newsman said,
“We’ve won the war in Iraq!
 Our troops are coming home!”
“Yeah right,” I said, “on to Afghanistan.”
A general appeared on the TV.
“That’s right,” he said to the newsman.

“Yeah right,” I said, “on to Afghanistan.”
