Hello, Darkness
Hello, Darkness.
It’s been a while
Since I’ve felt the linger of your chilling skin,
Seen the evil in your sneering smile.
“Hello, Darkness”
I screamed as I fell into his depths
I heard his tempting voice
And followed shyly in his steps.
The musky air silenced my heavy breathing
As the light began to dim.
Darkness grabbed me by the hand
And pulled me close to him.
He led me down the narrow hall,
His arms wrapped tightly around my soul
His thinning fingers grabbed my heart
And gave it a loving pull.
“Don’t be scared,” he whispered softly,
His hot breath on my satin skin
“You’re safe down here,
There’s no need to go back home again.”
“Who would miss you when you’re gone?
Nobody, you know it’s true.
You said it repeatedly to yourself,
None of them really love you.”
I looked up shyly,
My eyes drenched in tears,
His loving touch wiped them away,
And with them went my fears.
I realized what he said was true,
He had no reason to lie.
I’m a dreamer under the dark sky,
But even the darkness can’t hide the pain I keep inside.
“What do I have to do?”
I whimpered softly to Him.
My legs began to quiver
As Darkness flashed a knowing grin.
Darkness grabbed my shivering hand
and held it strongly in his,
“There’s only one way to prove your devotion,
I think you know what that is.”
He handed me a loaded gun,
Gave my hand a gentle squeeze
I pressed it softly to my head,
Taking a moment to feel the chilling breeze.
With a single shot the world went dark,
A single tear hitting the ground.
As I felt my soul starting to fade,
I lifted my head a little to take a look around.
At the end of the hallway,
I could see a tiny light.
Darkness smiled down at me,
His dark eyes burning bright.
As my eyes started to close,
The tears burning from the light
The brightness became blinding,
Rays of sunshine shining bright.
The end was near,
I could tell it was close.
Darkness grabbed my hand and
Gave it a loving stroke.
“I’m so proud of you,”
He whispered in my ear
“Now you can stay with me forever,
You’ll be safe down here.”
I looked up once more,
My soul weakened and sad
I couldn’t believe who I saw before me,
My mom and my dad.
“We’re so sorry, Dear.
We couldn’t understand,
You’ll always be our little girl.”
And they took me by the hand.
Darkness looked down upon me,
And frowned at the smile upon my face.
He shoved them out of my reach and screamed
“It’s too late, you’re here to stay.”
I realized what I had done,
And I knew it was too late.
I began to scream loudly
As my parents began to fade.
Darkness dragged me down the hall,
My vision going black,
I cried a final tear
And whimpered “I want to go back.”
