Magnitude
A benumbing shallowness, a hollowness
Has jaded many
We find
Beauty
In clichéd magazines, banal celebrities,
Hackneyed ideas turned putrid and glossed appetisingly
Success
In revoltingly wasteful lifestyles and dismally material triumphs,
Emaciating satisfaction
In evanescent trends and goods no one needs
Cuteness
In the things we contrive
And ugliness in what is different
Our society an ever- growing dictionary of narrow definitions.
Mercifully, beauty is seen
In the quenched thirst of a scorched stray dog
A crow's intelligently peering eyes
The kind smile of a stranger crossing the road
Clouds swallowing the winds, churning them in billowy stomachs
A solitary tree looking down a valley
Our billion cells working tirelessly, ingeniously, since antiquity in ways the brain struggles to understand,
Their exquisite fluidity, their robust completeness;
Achievement is realised
In a poor person's selfless charity
Rescuing a drowning ant
Finally comprehending physics
And people shattering prejudices,
Their life - giving warmth and profundity against the puny standards we set;
Contentment felt
In a glass of water while drenched in sweat,
Good company, and blades of grass;
More so as children,
Though we may retain this sixth sense
Of actually seeing our surroundings, our times.
There's so much depth
To the world we experience every second -
Cool winds tumble down the cliff -
Depth beyond evaluation.
