She couldn’t feel the rings of smoke

manifesting in her lungs,

couldn’t see the blood

dripping from her cigarette,

slowly infecting.

It turned everything black,

starting with her insides.

They rotted into ashes

just like she’s used to.

She thought she could stop,

keep it from spreading.

But she didn’t know

that she can’t smell

Carbon Monoxide.
