I am from
I am from seafoam and pages of novels.
From the cuts on my feet to the freckles on my face.
I wake to the screeches of roosters and fall asleep to the roaring waves.
I watch the sky, painted in hues of reds and oranges in the evening.
Then I watch the sky fall asleep, transforming into a black blanket full of stars.
I reside on the forgotten island of Kauai,
Where the dinosaurs roam and where the sharks nibble on surfers.
Where the friends I make are lunatics and where the ocean is our playground.
We have battle wounds and scars everywhere because of the idiotic things that make us grin.
I remember the night we spent on the moonlit beach,
My friends sang to the moon as the melodious tune of guitars played soundly in the background.
I sat close enough to the fire where I wouldn’t feel its kiss,
But close enough to watch it dance.
My clothes smelled heavily of raspy smoke the next day.
This island is where I’m from,
But it’s not where I’ll stay.
The blood of a traveller sings through my veins.
It’s calling for a new adventure.
I break the chains that bound me to my home, and I fly to the unexplored world.
Letting me dissolve into the horizon and merge within the stars.
