Letting Go
Her tense little fingers were wrapped
tightly around this long white string.
Pain shooting through her hot red finger tips
and down into her palm.
This little anchor held tight to this long string
that reached up to the sky.
But the string was too skinny,
even though this innocent child was holding on with all her might,
the white string burned her soft skin as it slid through her fingers.
Her determination was pointless.
She was always destined to let go,
but as the end of the string left her hand,
tears started to fill her ocean blue eyes.
She watched this small red dot float up into the sky
farther and farther away until she can no longer see it.
This little girl looks over at her mother,
sparkling tears sliding down her face.
"Mommy, I let go."
