Where im from
I am from scooters,
Johnson & Johnson, and Bluebell.
I am from the treehouse and swings.
(Brown, rusty, felt like they would fall apart)
I am from the camellias out back
the oak tree next door
its roots big and strong.
I’m from Church and mac-n-cheese with my family,
chicken legs and head to toe freckles.
I’m from Mimi and Pops.
I’m from the overly competitive, the crazy
and the loud,
from “Your mom!” and “In your face!”
I’m from goodnight prayers with my whole family
and after Church donuts.
I’m from 1219 Homestead,
Gumbo and fried fish.
I’m from my aunts toe thumbs,
And Face Hitting Doug.
In colorful frames
with happy children,
and huge smiles.
I am from those moments
from which my life is made up of,
unconditional love,
lots of giggling,
and some of the happiest times of my life.
