The Year That Changed it All
I remember in the days of old
You were shy, you were awkward
Had to fight to be bold
In short, you were everything that I am now
But now you’ve risen to hear the sound of a crowd.
The year that changed it all, you rose to fame
And you hear the multitudes chant your name
As you run down the hill, can’t keep back a smile
Which used to only come once in a while.
Now I’m a dull old bore, no one cares about me
Nothing special here, a nonentity
Generic and bland, just like you used to be
So your story is amazing
You worked your way to the top
But myself, I’m still struggling
In the dark depths I crawl.

this is about my struggles with social anxiety. the person I'm addressing in this poem is a someone I know who overcame their own insecurities and became "popular", while I'm still having trouble with shyness every day.
