I wait restless in a corner

I know one day he´ll find me

A little mouse, led to a trap

Like flowers lead a bee

I lay helpless filled with sorrow

For when that innocent mouse

Comes to free me from my capture

Will be vanquished from this house

¨Go away¨ I yell worried

But he doesn´t seem to hear

He comes to grab me, a slice of cheese

They sneak up from the rear

He´s just trying to feed his family

Trying to save them from

The starvation that awaits them

Saved by a few bread crumbs

He's done nothing wrong

I promise it I swear

But what they´ll do to him

Is far too much to bear

He´s just a lonely father

The soldier of his kind

Fighting for his kin

The fault of his death is mine

The author's comments:

This poem is an extended metaphore poem. It reflects the thoughts of a hostage who is the cause of someones death. This could also be read as the death or injury of someone being a result of the writer's action. Overall, it is a poem of guilt, and personal morales.
