afar.
they called her names
that pierced her heart
she looked down,
we looked away.
they beat him and shoved him
with his help me's drowning
down under the grim halls
but we stared from afar.

the punches got stronger,
the beatings lasted longer,
the calls for help got louder.
should we let those drown?
we must tell ourselves to never
only stand afar.
