If It Isn't You
If it isn’t you,
The queer girl that hides herself from the prying eyes
Who watch your every move like vultures awaiting the moment to swoop in for their prey.
If it isn’t you,
The queer girl who watches as men kiss men and women kiss women and all the people who disbelieve in love
Stare on
Like the ones in love
Are strange
And that if they kiss one more time that the devil
Will come up and rob them of their lives.
If it isn’t you,
The queer girl who nods when people ask who ask if you like anyone
And when you nod they ask what the boy’s name is
And you just make up a name in order to stay safe
And hidden
If it isn’t you,
The queer girl who changes the pronouns in your love poems from her to him.
If it isn’t you,
The queer girl who hides beneath the radar in order to keep her heart safe
The girl who shoves herself in the closet in an attempt to make everyone happy
When in reality you are all who needs to be happy.
