Pride and Regret in their Incipient Stages
With every remembered victory,
Another must have suffered defeat.
My accomplishment at the price of their disappointment,
Or theirs, at the cost of mine.
I was so overcome with joy and pride
I applauded when they announced our name.
My cheers were met with a silence that echoed off the gymnasium walls.
And disapproving stares from friends and strangers.
