When I Found Myself Among the Worms
A boy with blue eyes once told me
To wash my hands.
He told me soap and hot water
Would make me beautiful.
A girl with brown eyes once asked me
To join her in the garden,
Where we dug for worms,
And planted flowers.
I told her to wait,
To let me wash my hands.
She told me that the dirt under my fingernails
Is my best feature.
