I'm So OCD
Obsessive
Compulsive
Disorder
“Wow,” she said
“So you must be like
really neat.”
“Can you organize my locker?”
And all I thought was
Gee,
you think I’m that organized?
You should see my room in the morning.
Which is ironic because
Tidy becomes neurotic
A quirk becomes an idiosyncrasy
A hypochondriac becomes insane
“OCD?” he said
“Yeah,
I knew you had it”
“It’s obvious.”
Obvious,
the word my parents
and therapist
both used
Thank you, Dad.
And hey,
maybe they should change up the acronym
Obvious
Compulsive
Disorder
As in,
it’s obvious when you’re using a disorder
as an adjective.
You aren’t “so OCD”
Plus, saying it that way
is grammatically incorrect
Please speak in proper English,
and don’t hurt my OCD
If anyone here were to be,
it would be me
obviously.

Most writers cringe at the piece of advice, "Write what you know." However, I tend to find it helpful when experiencing the infamous writers' block. This piece is loosely based on myself. I hope its readers can find the true sense of character intended behind the rigid exterior. It's supposed to pull at the heartstrings of my fellow cynical teenagers. Enjoy!
