What You Are To Me
You were a mythical creature
Strong and untameable
Rare and desired
You were one of a kind
Someone who I always forgave, but never forgot
Who could say the word, and I’d come running
Who would lie, and I’d desire more
Someone who I could never have
You were like the fires in hell combined with the sun in heaven
Burning in my soul, creating an uncontrollable storm
A hurricane with no peaceful eye
A deadly, raging wind
That I could never escape, nor tame
Your soul was broken and cold
Alike the icicles falling, stabbing me
Making my heart bleed and my soul weep
The heart, bleeding out for you, giving you everything, in return for pain
And the soul, weeping for the gentle heart, who foolishly stayed under the falling icicles
You were complicated
An unsolvable equation
A foolish mistake
But I was too foolish to learn my mistake
And now I’m left
With a bleeding heart,
A crying soul,
And raging winds,
That spin as fast as my mind when I think of you

I was inspired to write this piece by a series of different poems, some about heartbreak, others about happiness, but all sending the same message: that people can cause great joy and also great pain.
