Me and My Tree
Breathe in, breathe out,
look at the clouds,
reminisce about
that tree that started to sprout.
Years it took to grow,
leaves that started to show,
the sappy branches I learned to know,
but, my god, that was ages ago.
Where I could hide from the heat in the shade,
where we all climbed and played,
a place I could evade,
is now victim to an industrial raid.
A tree, now a stump.
Where bees nests used to plump,
a getaway for both me and my chumps.
In my smooth road, emerged, is a bump.
I would let my lungs be hugged
by what gave food to the plants and the bugs.
The grass softly grasped my feet like a rug.
The crevices of the bark, I’d lay snug.
When blue, I’d embrace the green,
the lovely, foliage ridden scene.
For granted, we took its filtering of the air clean.
Goodbye to a friend, that I hope I can soon, again, see.

This poem is about trees and the services they provide. Alot of us underestimate the importance of trees in today's world, where wevalue short term gains over long term affects. We need to realize that we should take care of trees the same way they take care of us.
