A Vivid Tale of Normality
A Vivid Tale of Normality
Where the giants, the titans rise,
through the air choked and frayed with smog.
From the perspective of a little ant, miniscule in size
Being thunderstruck, in my soul, an inner monologue,
On the sheer enormity of those buildings.
Just a few hundred meters away,
Where the sun peeks over the tips of spires
Stands an obelisk quietly observing the bay
At night, it becomes illuminated in the fire
Of burning lights on the skyscrapers of the Bund.
A moment of peace is hard to find
In this bustling city where there is no time for thought
Quiet reflection on places that are so profound in my mind
Pondering the changing times, those that have been wrought
It truly is a place to comprehend and understand.
Watching skyscrapers climb from a squat brown rectangular prism,
From a dusty old window that never wants to close.
I’m still awed by the enchanting hypnotism
Springing from a city that is a China Rose:
Shanghai.

Since the pandemic, I was unable to go to Shanghai and visit my family there. I wrote this poem to commemorate the happy memories I had and a hope to visit once again.
