Quiet and lonely, the orchid waits

Hidden by a wall, its beauty ignored

Like a spring nymph never revealing herself

A kaleidoscope of purple; speckled with magenta and white

Leaves dimpled with mid-summer green

A spring majesty to behold

Encircled by a heavenly piece of pottery

Two tendrils reaching up toward heaven

Striped with vivid orange

Like a Halloween pumpkin, a tall cylinder of ceramic

Bedazzled with stripes of marigold, a daisy of vases

The lonely orchid’s home, a sanctuary of peace

Like something out of a tropical paradise

So alive and full of color

If ever there was a flower so pretty and lovely

This orchid would be radiant

Yet no people come to admire it

Petals slowly dropping, leaves wilting

Its branches sagging, the lonely orchid waits

Like a dancer, sweeping its petals into the air

Yet also like a clown, perpetually drooping

A flower hourglass, always flowing- never changing

A delicate flower, its spirit soft like a kitten

Waiting, always waiting

For when its beauty will be unveiled to the world

When prying eyes all gaze at it in wonder

A quiet soul, forever silent

Never speaking, but lightening the hearts of all around it

This flower, this flower, is waiting

Is it but not a flower from which poems flow

But a lonely orchid destined to wait forever
