I wear a yellow jacket

When all gods yell “all men created equal.”

I crumble in silence

Mud blades scratching through skin.

Wanderlust sent me somewhere without notion.

Yangzi left me with doused in so-called shame.

Shall I take that off?

Transforming glares into no more reserving sound.

Shall I wash the color off?

Praying a life of no turn down

But

I constantly love and would miss the identity

Where I belong—

I see again the society

With scrutiny without delight.

For crucial metaphors

—pierced through my life.

History of discrimination shapes the lens of sight.

When stars dismissed the dark blanket of the night sky—

Will life emerge

Will souls shine?

The author's comments:

During the pandemic, Asians, especially Chinese people, have been greatly discriminated against because of their identity and origin. They have received unreasonable glares in ordinary life and physical attack for no reason.

This is the reality that we do not wish to see. Changes we can make require collaboration but can be achieved if we act as with unity and determination.

I hope for change since virus is ultimately virus.

We can do far more positive things instead of indifferently letting ignorance destroy humanity.

This is all the start of dialogue of the permanent topic.

It is discrimination that is the real virus.
