What Would I do Without you Mom?
What would I do without you, mom?
Whether I would like to admit it or not,
You truly are my best friend.
Thinking about it makes my eyes tear up, my stomach drop,
and has me smiling from ear to ear.
You walk as tall as a giraffe
and you hold yourself with such confidence.
You walk in your high heels better than anyone I know.
I’m sure over the years your confidence has grown.
You smell amazing like flowers and roses.
I hope that someday I can be as confident as you are
and hold myself with such grace and professionalism.
You speak with such high vocabulary not only on work calls,
but to my sister and I as well.
Your brain is like a dictionary.
Sometimes I find myself questioning what you are saying
because I don’t even know what the words mean!
Your short blonde hair is the color
of the star that you are, that beams from you so brightly, that it blinds people,
and makes everyone want to be like you.
Your blue eyes are the color
of the extraordinary 1st place medal ribbon you get for
being the best mom in the whole wide world.
Your hair feels so soft and smooth, at all times of the day,
every day.
Your squinty eyes when you smile
are the best feature that I got from you
because it makes me unique.
My favorite thing in the world is when
people tell me I look like you.
Sunday mornings are my favorite.
I love waking up to the smell of the
cinnamon French toast and fresh bacon that you make.
It tastes like heaven.
I also love the holidays because it is when we watch Hallmark movies,
while drinking hot chocolate and eating candies.
We pick out so many presents for our family members,
and I love shopping in the stores.
You inspire me to be as
successful as you are.
Vice President at Northwestern Hospital,
such a good job that I one day want to have one like.
You work harder than anyone I know.
Staying late at work, staying up late doing work, and having to take care of us.
How do you do it all and not make a fus?
Hard work, the thing that is equivalent to weights on your shoulders,
the thing that makes you tired, makes you question existence,
but is all worth it in the end.
My mom’s parents both died when she was young,
so she had to finish raising her siblings,
and sacrifice where she went to college so she could take care of them.
I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it was for her, but her hard work and determination paid off and it led her to be as successful as the president!
If I were in trouble you would be there faster than lighting.
Your parenting skills hold Superman at competition
because you have so much power and you would sacrifice everything for us;
It is literally mom to the rescue when I have something I need help with.
Your nursing skills inspire me to be as good as you
one day when I become a nurse.
When I feel the shiny stethoscope for the first time,
and listen to a loud and steady heart beat,
I will think back to all you have taught me,
and how you have led me down this path.
You always say that we are so similar,
and you did the same things as me when you were my age.
That is why sometimes we collide and have arguments.
I feel so terrible when I talk back because you don’t deserve such harshness.
No matter how sassy or rude I am at times,
don’t listen to it because you are my best friend at all times.
You are the person I go to when I’m feeling
sick, afraid, helpless, lonely, or when I simply need a hug.
You do all of my healing.
What would I do without you, mom?
