Light streams through the branches

I sprint up and down the dry creekbed

We can’t hide from growing up

My dreams were just ahead

The forest feels so small now

The winding path so much shorter

I walked a mile, maybe less

My mind in disorder

I thought so little about my future

It always seemed so far away

And walking in the woods

I don’t want to go back today

I can't speak for everyone, but I can say I'm terrified of growing up. I wonder if the colleges I chose are really the best for me, if the major I filled out is going to stick, if this degree I get in a handful of years will even be worth it... I thought back to a time when I didn't worry about growing up. At my family's farm, there were a handful of trails leading into the woods, and usually ended up by a huge creek running through the property. Hours I would spend unsupervised running up and down it, climbing over fallen trees and brush piles, jumping over deep puddles - it was an adventure for elementary Me.
