2022 Traditions Contest: Long-life Noodles
January 27, 2022
On my birthday, Mom makes her special noodles—
long-life noodles, she calls it.
In the blue-and-white porcelain bowl,
a whorl of boiled noodles
coated with a dark sauce redolent of soy and ginger
thick with shrimps, mushrooms, and egg drops,
topped with a pinch of shredded scallion.
Aroma swims with steam across the house.
A sunrise of joy, a chorus of wishes,
A taste of home.
