The Lies We Wear
Everyone wears a face
Each a special lie
We smile to hide
Trying to abide
Ask me how I am
I sing a beautiful lie
Thoughts scream
Emotions ripping at the seams
Why hide it at all
If I voice truth, who would hear?
My lie slips
Everyone looks away
The world doesn’t cry
Smiles cover my tears
Head pounds in pain
Silenced by society
My lies
Perfect as always
Forcing smiles
I no longer wear
This is me
Perfectly imperfect
Screaming out my truth
I am far from over
I wrote this poem that was inspired by my experience in High School and emotions.
