Nervous Habits
Nervous habits are so personal -
the way someone will keep eating even though he's long past full
or the way he bites his nails and then covers them
or tear at anything they can get their hands in
the way she gets louder when she's anxious
or suddenly develops an affinity to cuss
the way he shifts from foot to foot
does little hops up and down, and paces cause he can't stay put
the way she bounces her leg
and taps her foot and her fingers on a peg
they pick at their skin when they get nervous
he runs his hands through his hair to try and adjust
The way she chews on her hair
or the way he picks at the skin around his nails
or pops a piece of chewing gum in their mouth
grinds their teeth and clenches their fists
and I know they're bad habits
but can I help it if I find it beautiful
the way someone else deals with their stress
