Perfect Stones
I have seen stones,
That once had jagged sides,
With flawed edges,
And rough corners,
That now rest in the riverbed,
With smooth sides,
Flawless edges,
And rounded corners.
The rushing water,
Molds them,
Without consent,
Into what it has been taught to believe,
Is acceptable.
The stones that once shouted,
“I am imperfect
And I am beautiful because of it!”
Now sit in obedient silence,
Mirroring the looks of every stone around them.
I have seen,
Too many smooth sides,
Flawless edges,
And rounded corners.
Coming from the multitude,
Of perfect stones,
I swear I hear,
A faint,
“Save me!”
But what can I do,
To help them?
Every day,
I am pelted by the river too,
But,
I will be,
Even if I am by my lonesome,
A survivor,
An example perhaps,
With jagged sides,
With flawed edges,
With rough corners.
And I am beautiful.

I have seen children I grew up with trade their cleats and jerseys for high heels and dresses, and I have always wondered, who made that decision for them to change themselves. Was it the crushing blows of society, or was it the human inside them that truly wanted to do this? There is nothing wrong with high heels or dresses, I like to wear them myself, but I have always worn them and still have a wide variety of clothing in my closet, while I see these kids only wearing the latest fashions. Maybe it was by their own free will, but something tells me it wasn't. Should we all have to be hammered by the river? I want you to do one thing for me, look deep into your soul and ask it, is this the life you want to be living, or a life someone else wants you to live? What you do with the information you find is your decision, but I hope you learned something about yourself today.
