Should have been there
I’m the youngest in the family
My family was very hard on me growing up
I know this because I've had to learn to do a lot of my own
Growing up with an alcoholic mother
Learning how to put my own mom to bed
when it should have been the other way around
My name wasn't a babysitter to someone
Who should have been there for her 8-year-old child
I say my name out loud and it doesn't seem as unique as it sounds
It sounds like disappointment, “toughen up” and a bad kid
I wish I had known on my first day of elementary school
That I would be coming home to that every day
I look back on what my life used to be like
Hoping no one else around me had to go through that
