When you tell me I'm shutting you out
In the dream I don't tell anyone
the three of you stand in front of me
and I have just one question for you
Would you still love me
if I showed you all of me?
1.
I show you me
at my worst
at my lowest
at my most destructive
When the darkness clouds my eyes and
I don't want to wake up in the morning
When my gender isn't what you'd expect
and I don't know who to love
I show you the pieces of myself even I don't love.
2.
I show you me
at my best
at my highest
at my most okay
When the hope seizes hold of my shoulders and
I grab life by the hand and say I will love you again
When I am a picture perfect poster child
and I don't need you to hold me together
I show you the pieces of myself who stay sane without you.
3.
I show you me
at the altar
at the communion table
at the feet of Jesus
When I am broken down and built back up and
I place my hopes and fears in his lap
When I am obedient and respectful
and my belief is unwavering
I show you the faithful pieces of myself.
In the dream I don't tell anyone
none of you love me enough to stay.
(I'm sorry I'm not who you want me to be)
