Orange Soda and Chocolate Milk
I'm drunk off of orange soda and communion juice
the taste of a bari sax reed and
the smell of sunscreen and chlorine
I'm crying and the tears taste like chicken poppers
Altar calls and carpet ball and
the way your arm felt around my shoulders
I'm bleeding and the wound stings like guitar strings
Piggy back rides and cotton eye Joe
the peace that came with fellowship and prayer
Am I still happy Jesus woke me up?
Sometimes, when I remember grandma Peggy is praying for me still
Sometimes, when I remember to pray for someone besides myself
I miss looking at the sky with you and
Superhero dodgeball and captain America fans
I miss trucks versus teslas and country music blaring
I miss Oompa Loompas stealing balloons and
snack shack bucks and stop bro stop
I miss old men making fatal mistakes and
stray dogs loose on campus
I'll see you in less than a year
I think that I can wait
(a year is a long time)
