I jam my thumb down on five until the
busy line noise sounds but
my mom and dad are still in the kitchen
screaming and I
am still stuck on this
hot
sticky
couch
doing homework I don't understand
and probably never will
and trying to be smaller
My dad is making himself food on the stove
and I am learning to become less noticeable
I am learning to never look you in the eyes
to leave no evidence I exist
I jam the button for 5 until my thumbs bleed
there was never any way out for us
I think we knew that from the start
