Don’t put too many layers of paint

on a canvas.

Although colors all have their own qualities

and stand for different things,

they have to be mixed at some point,

otherwise, they’d all be boring and bland!

Red can seem intimidating

and aggressive, like fire.

Yellow is happy,

light and fulfilling.

Polar opposites,

but when mixed together

they create a beautiful orange.

A color usually spotted in the midst of a sunset,

or splattered over a freshly sprout flower.

All colors,

regardless of what you think they mean,

are beautiful.

Just make sure

you don’t add too many.

Beautiful blue and glorious green,

mixed together with red and yellow.

You’d expect a blossom of a rainbow,

a stunning sherbet color not too bright and not too dark.

But unexpectedly,

you’re instead met with brown.

Muddy brown that does nothing

except ruin the art already on the canvas.

But I thought merging colors

was essential to art?

It is!

To merge is to mix,

and to mix is to grow.

But to flood is to overwhelm,

and to be overwhelmed is to surrender.

The art will still be lovely no matter what,

of course.

But just be careful

not to add too much paint at once,

otherwise, it could crack,

and ruin what’s underneath.

Don’t put too many layers of paint

on a canvas.
