Due 11:59 They Said
I have no time to sit and cry
I’ve nearly reached the end of the deadline
I can no longer just look at the page and whine
Due 11:59 they said
The overwhelming stress is driving me crazy
But yet, I’m the child who gets called lazy
Reading the instructions, though they are very hazy
Due 11:59 they said
I’m laying on my bed, thinking “What should I do?”
It won’t be long until I see the words “Past Due”
I look at the clock, only to see it’s 11:52
Due 11:59 they said
I feel hopeless and I still have 7 more questions
With 7 minutes left, I’ve been definitely been taught a lesson
I should’ve worked harder, like my teachers suggested
Due 11:59 they said
As the numbers 11:58 flip upon the clock
Only 1 more minute until the assignment locks
Now I see I should’ve listened instead
Due 11:59 they said.

I wrote this piece while I was finishing homework for a class late. I procrastinated and ended up finishing the assignment late. I decided that weekend that I would write a poem about the experience.
