Why am I an Artist?
The act of creating will save you
Kings have soldiers,
Gods have angels,
but you have something neither have -
hands unafraid to gain calluses
and nails that are always torn
Whenever you can use your hands
Sink them into clay,
Press the keys of a saxophone,
Hold the paintbrush,
or the pencil,
or someone else's hand
There is no end to the thing you can create
Just don't only consume so mindlessly
The act of creating will save your life
