Food Identity
Bustling cars and
scattering lights
viewed from my looming sixteenth floor window.
Yapping dogs shouting adults
scuttering children ever-present rustle
Clamorous kitchen full of life
aromas drifting out like essence
Oh, those dreadful 14 hours bound to the land of the free!
Tomato fried egg
sizzling egg fried rice
delightful dumplings drizzled in vinegar and soy sauce.
Concerning addiction to mushrooms
aromatic cheesecakes with a cartoon chef mascot
And that life-changing bite of western cuisine off the shore of California
I am
“Oh, Huahua!” with no context.
I am
“You need to eat more than that.”
I am
“You’re so beautiful.”
I am
“I love you”
overflowing.

This piece is just a little nod to my Chinese-American identity. If you know, you know. Would appreciate any feedback or rating! :)
