Discovering Me
I find a piece of myself
Grounded in the cracks of the cement.
Alongside nascent green leaves
yearning to stretch upwards
in a perpetual mission to grow
Towards a fiery glow
On which the world runs
I find a piece of myself
Among the glittering masses above at night
Where converging luminosities
Seem so certain of themselves
As they construct nimble pictures in the mesosphere
Seeking admiration
And seeking to please
I find a piece of myself
Drifting in the sky as
The Earth turns away from the sun
Painting landscapes
That elicit awe from beholders
And like all things beautiful
Disappear before my very eyes
I find a piece of myself
Floating in the tormented waves of the sea in a storm
Fearing every moment
When the waves crash over my head
And the surface becomes so distant
As if I can never return
But still
I find a piece of myself
Up in a powerful, tall, sequoia
From a vantage point so close to the sun
Where everything is right within my reach

This poem illustrates the way I view myself at different points in time. Sometimes I feel confident in myself while at other times, it feels as if I'm drowning from pressure and judgment from others. In the end, however, I feel that it's important that everyone finds some peace of mind and focus on themselves first before everything else.
