customers coming in and out on a daily basis

a store of confections and sweets

with its perfect creations on the front window display

a boutique bakery 

"brought by gentrification," my neighbor says

but I don't listen 

distracted by the pretty pink cupcake on display

how much is the cupcake in the window?

enough to be a birthday cake

with a lovely light pink cream cheese frosting 

and with confetti birthday cake

my mother tries to recreate it 

with a pink candle on top

she asks me to blow out the candle

to make my wish

I wish for enough pocket change

to buy the pretty pink cupcake on display 

to have my cake and eat it too
