Blue

Roses are red.

I hate that I cannot explain it to you

I never meant to mislead you

You misunderstood my intentions

It was never your fault.

Violets are blue.

Your eyes begin to shed tears,

each one ripping my soul.

Yet, I let each tear fall,

shattering on the pavement

and

shattering the invisible bonds holding us together.

Honey is sweet.

You’re arms envelope yourself

Like a shield.

They separating us.

I attempt to close the gap

and break down the walls.

So are you.

I grab the arm

of your thrifted sweater.

Those flooded eyes

stare coldly back at me.

Misunderstandings are my rue.

It’s cold out and the rain

makes it icy.

I finally realize that you have

already imagined a life without me.

A life without you.

Your arms don’t protect yourself.

They separate us.

Those tears aren't for you.

They are for me.

Makes me blue too.

You will forever be a part of my life.

This misunderstanding will be that scar

that disfigures me deeply

hiddened beneath my clothes

and carried with me forever.

The scar that will burn

when a memory evoked by an old song

that accidentally finds its way

to the top of my shuffle triggers.
