Eating an Orange
I look at the orange orb,
and it blankly stares at me.
My appetite tells me yes,
But my lazy body disagrees.
I convince myself, and up rises the giant
From the couch, one step … at a time.
Head down, back hunched.
Never have three meters seemed so far.
I slowly take it in my hands,
The citrus smell and the slick outside.
A natural defense tactic, I realize.
Pssshhh, goes the orange,
as I stab my short nails into the skin.
Cszzsszz is the sound of walls peeling away from flesh.
The wrinkles obvious, the lines drawn.
I know where to separate, to end, to devour the last member
of the Citrus X Sinensis Clan.
