Different
Oh, only if the skies could burn
And slough off their old skin
The wretched and the tired yearn
For respite from their torment
You've taken a shine for glittering things
But where does it end
This greedy grin
Shouldn't there be more?
The silvery burns of hatred
Pale and unyielding
Scraping away at the shell of your being
Crack-crack-crack
It breaks
Solid forms melt into what was once the stars
I, myself, only know one.
For the darkest nights
They pierce your soul
Now you walk into the light
But it has taken a toll
I have become something greater
But some things will never be the same
The sun was not always that bright shade of blue
It used to glitter with rain
Different, different
I will always be
I cannot name it
That feeling, that taste of light and joy
But I can still try, and I can still fly

I wrote this poem when I realized how much I have changed in my life, and how far I still have to go.
