On Me
We were toying
Building a house of cards
As the slicing wind blew
It pierced through your chest
Through your soul
My heart raced as the wild cards trembled
The tower shook like a snow globe
But it wasn’t snow that fell
I waited for the sleigh bells to ring
The choir to sing
Everything I dreamed of
The warm, bubbly feeling melted
The tower tilted
Spilled
On me.
I gave you the knife
You stabbed hard
I was bleeding
And you watched silently
I gave you the knife
You stabbed hard
On me.

Inspired by all the heartbreak songs that I add to my playlist, this was one of those poems that took me barely any time at all to compose. The phrases flowed through my mind so naturally that all I had to do was reach up and grab them before they escaped.
