The Silent Death
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
In a world surrounded by silence,
Silence surrounding the world,
Inescapable,
Thump thump,
Thump thump,
In your chest,
you feel a heartbeat,
all the way to your toes,
Sense of touch springing,
As you step you feel every vibration,
Sensitive enough to feel a fly’s wings flutter on the wall next to you,
Nose brimming as its senses are heightened,
Smelling each flavor and odor in the air,
Pupils dilate to the slightest change of light,
But, you can’t hear,
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
Home alone,
Sleep barely five minutes ago,
You hear nothing,
But at the same time you hear everything,
Screaming,
That something has changed,
In the kitchen,
Across is the show your mom forgot to turn off last night,
You go to turn it up,
Full volume,
The leftovers you put in the microwave are finished,
You don’t know until you’ve turned around,
You feel your ears,
Rub the inside,
The usual noise of you’re finger rubbing up against your ear,
Is not there,
You yell,
But,
You have no voice,
You drop something but,
Again,
There is no noise,
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
You step outside on a warm summer evening,
No cars hum,
No birds chirp,
No chihuahua yapping,
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
You hear it,
A noise,
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
It gets faster and louder,
Tik tik,
Tik tik,
Silence,
You try looking around and all you see is white,
You seem to be floating,
almost like your in a dream,
You hold your hand out,
But grasp nothing but air,
And shortly after,
You realize the only thing in front of you was air,
No arm,
No hand,
No finger,
Nothing,
White,
Emptiness,
Loneliness,
Death.
