To Be...
To be a woman is to be afraid.
Women since the age of five,
Echoes in our ears
The words,
“Stranger Danger!”
Run away,
Call someone,
And to not accept a stranger's invitation,
ANYWHERE.
To be a woman is to be prim and proper.
“Be modest,”
Dress up, and look good.
But not too good that
Or you’re trying too hard.
Wear light makeup,
Do your hair,
But don’t let it be seen as tidy,
So make it messy.
Don’t wear short skirts,
Don’t show too much skin.
But to be noticed,
Be revealing,
Wear short skirts,
Show skin.
To be a woman is to be confused.
To be a woman is to be bait,
Preyed upon.
To be a woman is to follow the 50’s stereotype of the perfect wife…
Put dinner on the table,
Care for the kids,
Get groceries.
More importantly,
Be quiet.
Men don’t care what you have to say.
Just be an object,
“Stand there,
Smile, and
Look pretty.”
Women exist, and men exist.
But without a woman,
No one would.
This is a man’s world and
Without a woman,
It would be nothing.
To be a woman is to be life.
To be a woman is to be dictated,
Because that is our normality.
Break this norm,
and remember…
Women don’t owe you sh*t.
