The Sisters
We both had bikes
the fall of freshman year.
I was looking for her on
Oakdale, and after school
we went down Oakdale
to Indiana.
Biking home from her house
her mom had me borrow a light.
Flimsy and
plastic,
clipping onto my handlebars.
When she biked and
I walked, I'd run
next to her, backpack bouncing
up and down.
When winter fell and a
sneer froze into my face
my bruised jaw
the cold seeps into my bones
a stolen bike
a broken chain
two girls I no longer know
