Growing up
I don’t really know when I realized that I grew up,
I don’t really know how you realize.
Maybe it’s when I realize I can’t remember all the kids who were in my second grade class anymore,
Or maybe the pure innocent happiness I felt running through the grass with them.
Maybe it's the fact that the things that used to bother me, like my parents, no longer do,
Or maybe it's when I realized that sixth grade was six years ago.
Or maybe how I now have to wake myself up in the mornings,
And put band aids on my own scrapes and cuts, not my grandma.
Maybe, It's when you realize your now in on the adult conversations, not the kids in the other room,
Or how none of the adults protest when I drink a cup of coffee.
Or getting picked up by your friend to meet them in the front seat, not the back.
You don’t realize it, but eventually you do, and start to miss the things you never realized you would miss,
You tell yourself your whole life your ready to grow up, but I would give anything to be with my second grade class one more time running in the grass without a care in the world.
