[A] Study [In Love] Equations
Instead of by moonlight
Or a candle’s mellow glow
Our “date” is illuminated by the dim glares of our screens
And the quiet hum of our voices
Blooming flowers and romantic decor
Are replaced by long equations and lined paper
Scratched with gray pencil markings
And little graphite hearts
The night is painted across the sky’s canvas
The perfect hour for young lovers
To gaze upon graphs and numbers
But never into each other’s eyes
I recite theorems and formulas
And he listens intently
As if they are lines of poetry
From the deepest corners of my soul
Written just for us
