ANTHOLE

I am nothing but an ant-gazing up high,

to my dreams, my ambitions-up there in the blue, blue sky,

and all I do is scream and cry-and screech yet never try-

one day-maybe I'll raise my hands, and touch the blue, blue sky

maybe the sky will greet me with a gust of air

and maybe the sun will welcome me, with her care

and the clouds will grant me with gentle rain,

the warmth-the water will sooth my pain

But, being an ant, I have a long way to go,

many mountains to climb, endless rivers to row

I am nothing but an ant, yet that's what gives me strength,

the vast blue above me, and the truth of it's extent.

Being an ant, I may never be found,

Even if I am, I may never leave the ground,

But who says I can't dream, and hope, and pray, and preach

For the blue, blue sky-out of my reach

The author's comments:

This is my first time submitting to a magazine. And honestly I had a hard time deciding which one of my poems to submit. The first one? No, we all our first poems are pretty crap. This poem means a lot to me. I literally wrote it in a poet workshop/internship. I was felt worthless listening to others beautifully recite their poems, and wrote this while coping. Because, honestly I write the best when I feel like crap. I hope this gets chosen,.
