I've Been Hurt
You’ve come to buy the perfect pet;
A lifelong companion.
You scan all the cages,
But none catch your eye.
As you head toward the door,
You see a cage that has one lone dog.
You stop and look at him,
Wondering what he’s been through.
You kneel down by the window,
And he raises his head to look at you with
His big brown eyes.
His fur is all tattered,
And there is a cut next to his eye.
You look into his eyes,
and you see the message in them:
“I’ve been hurt.
Nobody wants me.
I need help.”
People passing by make
Disgusted noises as they see him.
They only see a beaten street dog.
And they can’t see that he’s begging for help.
Something inside you melts,
And you know that you’re bringing him home.
Once you’ve paid for him,
He’s put into your arms.
You smile at him,
And his tail starts to wag.
As you walk out the door with your new friend,
You know he’s the one meant for you.
