Lullaby
Adam is beside me
Driving in slanted lines
Across the highway
Weaving through the cars
That move too slowly
We are rocking back and forth
Between the guard rails.
Jake is in the backseat
Reaching around the headrest
Tapping a beat into my dream
With his hands in my hair.
I'm closing my eyes
As their words fill the car
With cigarette smoke
And the quiet ticking
Of their brains.
