Joyful News
Today I feel like dancing.
My friend is coming back.
It’s been so long since she left,
for California in the summer before seventh grade.
The sun seems to shine brighter today.
I’m happy, smiling, as I daydream
About the days we used to spend together.
Now we can start again.
Oh, I’ve thought about this day, but it’s been
a butterfly
A world of color, so pretty and shimmering,
Fluttering just out of reach.
Under the sweet summer sky
The day is like a dream,
Washing away the grayness
Of our last days together.
So I smile at summer flowers
And watch the clouds go by.
Today I feel like dancing.
My friend is coming back.
