In My Head
I’ve been thinking about song rhythms. Counting
In my head, listening for cues– Oh!
There one goes.
Missed again.
I’ve been thinking that I should write that perfect book,
The one that would change everything–
No, not that word,
Not good enough.
I’ve been thinking of falling in love. It
Seems to be the thing to do at my age, which is
Fifteen, so not really love–
That’s the trouble with thinking. You know,
Bumblebees and all. The science hadn’t quite caught
Up, and if bumblees were physicists they could’t have–
Never mind. If fifteen year olds were physicists they couldn’t fly either.
